Europe got its last major update to EU data privacy in 1995. The European Data Protection Directive (DPD). Since the last data privacy reform more than two decades ago, a lot has changed about how we do business and how we communicate with each other.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces DPD and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.

GDPR applies to every organization that processes personal data of the EU citizens, even if it’s located outside of the EU. Any company working with an EU entity is required to upgrade its security in accordance with the new data protection law to prevent data violation.
